Abstract

The Massachusetts Neuroscience Consortium is designed to accelerate preclinical research available to the pharmaceutical industry, introduce academic researchers to the challenges of targeted research, and facilitate industry-academic partnerships. The consortium is comprised of pharmaceutical companies that recognize the value of leveraging the rich Massachusetts environment in the field of neuroscience. Through engagement with researchers working on central nervous system diseases, consortium members are seeking an opportunity to advance our collective understanding and treatment of such diseases.

Mission

The consortium’s purpose is to accelerate early-stage research available to the pharmaceutical industry. By providing funding to premier primary investigations in the state, the consortium aims to introduce academic researchers to the challenges of targeted research and facilitate industry-academic collaborations.

A number of factors make this consortium unique:

Consortium History

In July 2013, the center announced the first seven awards under the consortium, including three focused on Alzheimer’s, two focused on neuropathic pain, and one each focused on muscular sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

Financing

Each of the consortium members has contributed for a total available amount of project funding of $1,250,000. All funding decisions will be made by consortium members.
